Opening Gap Tracker
Marks the overnight gap, tracks whether price fills it, and reports the fill rate and median fill time.
Every session opens somewhere other than where the last one closed. That distance is the opening gap, and the first question of the morning is whether price returns to close it. The indicator draws the gap between the previous close and the current open, holds it on the chart while it remains unfilled, and marks the bar where price trades back through.
Drawing the level is the easy part. The dashboard adds what a drawn level cannot say on its own: across the last fifty gaps on this symbol, how many were filled, and how long the fill usually took. A symbol that closes eight gaps in ten is a different proposition from one that closes three, and the median fill time separates the gaps that go quickly from the ones that take all session.
Gaps below a minimum size are ignored, so a few cents of overnight drift never counts as a gap. Whether a wick counts as a fill, or only a close through the level, is your choice.
How to read it
- Read the fill rate before treating an unfilled gap as a target.
- Median fill time tells you whether this is a first hour trade or an all day one.
- Raise the minimum gap size on volatile symbols so the statistics describe gaps that matter.
Questions
Does it work on any symbol?
Yes. The statistics come from the bars your chart has loaded, so they describe the symbol in front of you rather than the market in general.
How many gaps go into the statistics?
Fifty by default, adjustable up to five hundred. A longer chart history gives a larger sample.
