Structure
Smart Order Blocks
Marks bullish and bearish order blocks when structure shifts, and greys each one out once price mitigates it.
An order block is the candle preceding a move that broke structure, on the argument that it marks where size was positioned. Marking them by hand is slow and inconsistent between traders. This indicator applies one rule every time, drawing the block as soon as the structure break confirms.
Mitigation is handled explicitly. A block price has already traded back into has done its work, and leaving it on the chart is clutter, so mitigated blocks grey out while unmitigated ones extend forward. Whether a wick or a closing price counts as mitigation is your choice, as is how many blocks remain active on each side.
The swing length that defines a structure break is the setting that changes everything else. A short length marks many blocks on minor swings, a long one marks few on major ones.
How to read it
- Untested blocks are the ones worth watching. The greyed ones are history.
- A block that coincides with a session level or VWAP is a stronger reference than one sitting in open space.
- Five active blocks a side is usually plenty. More becomes noise.
Questions
Does it repaint?
Blocks are drawn when the structure break confirms on a closed bar, and they are not removed from history afterwards.
Wick or close for mitigation?
Wick is stricter and marks blocks as used sooner. Close is more forgiving. Both are available.
